Common Core Exemplars
How will the Common Core Learning Standards affect my work with students?
The standards were developed as a result of the work of the Council of Chief State School Officers and the National Governors Association: They are research and evidence based; aligned with college and work expectations; rigorous; and internationally benchmarked.
The standards define what students need to know and be able to do but not what and how teachers should teach. An emphasis on academic vocabulary provides a solid foundation for instruction and study.
There are six fundamental instructional shifts in ELA/Literacy and six in mathematics that must occur in order to successfully implement the standards.

How has Attanasio & Associates met this challenge?
At Attanasio & Associates, we provide materials that support classroom instruction in the Common Core Learning Standards with true alignment of curricular materials. We have classroom libraries with literary texts, libraries with informational text and libraries with a combination of both genres. Our leveled collections, both fiction and nonfiction, offer numerous titles on each step of the staircase of text complexity to provide adequate materials for mastery. Our libraries are kept up-to-date with the latest, most exciting titles.
What about the Text Exemplars? Do the Common Core Learning Standards recommend specific titles?
Appendix B of the Common Core Standards offers titles of books, poems, plays and essays that serve as text exemplars for the standards. These are the only materials provided by the authors as suggested materials. Attanasio & Associates has organized these suggested titles by grade level and genre and made them available in class packets for easy ordering.
Is Attanasio & Associates participating in meeting the rigor demanded by the new standards and chief academic officers of Great City Schools?
Attanasio & Associates is proud to affirm its commitment to selling rigorous materials in a scaffolded format aligned to meet the common core standards. We will continue to provide targeted materials for English Language Learners and struggling readers at their level of proficiency while offering instructional solutions in English and Native Languages.
